Postorgasmic-Illness-Syndrome Academic Literature

Welcome to the POIS-Network Literature Hub!
If you’re looking for scientific studies, clinical papers, and medical literature on postorgasmic-illness-syndrome (POIS), you’ve found the right place. Since the first scientific study in 2002, a number of specialist articles about postorgasmic-illness-syndrome have been published. This page features a growing collection of research articles, case reports, and reviews – ideal for patients, clinicians, and researchers alike. Please note: These are essentially case studies with very few test subjects. A large-scale study is still lacking.
If you’ve come across a POIS-related paper that’s not listed here, let us know!

Post-Orgasmic Illness Syndrome: Clinical Presentation, Psychosocial Impact, and Management Challenges Based on Two Case Reports
This preprint describes two patients with POIS who developed pronounced physical, cognitive, and psychological symptoms following ejaculation. Organic and allergic causes were ruled out. Multidisciplinary treatment approaches led to partial symptom improvement. The authors emphasize the significant psychosocial burden and the need for further research.

Postorgasmic illness syndrome
The study by Dorofeev & Krasnyak (2025) provides a review of the literature on Post-Orgasmic Illness Syndrome (POIS) and presents a clinical case illustrating the typical flu-like, cognitive, and autonomic symptoms occurring after ejaculation. The authors conclude that POIS is likely polyetiological (including immunological, neuroendocrine, and autonomic mechanisms) and that hormonal factors such as testosterone may play a potential therapeutic role.
